Connectind PC (DVI) to FULL HD LCD 40″ SONY (HDMI)?

Question by Kakisback: Connectind PC (DVI) to FULL HD LCD 40″ SONY (HDMI)?
TV:
SONY KDL-40V4000
40″
FULL HD 1080p

PC:
GPU – GeForce XFX 9800 GTX+ Black Edition
Output – DVI

Adapting both of these with a DVI-HDMI cable i get a default resolution of a normal LCD/CRT monitor 1280×1024
and when i set it to full HD 1920×1080 progressive (60 Hz) i get an image which is too big for my monitor (taskbar and all edges are out of the picture). When i set it to 720p the zoom effect only gets worse.

If you know something about this problem please share your knowledge.
How do i get it to fit to the screen??

ps. please don’t be a smart a** and tell me “your TV is set on ZOOM mode” believe me i’ve double checked these things.

TY for helping :)

I also have a Sony Bravia and it’s connected to my computer using a DVI-to-HDMI cable: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/armchairaviator/computer/IMG_0880c.jpg

There is a setting called Display Area in one of the setup menus on my Bravia, which controls Overscan/Underscan. It must be set to “full pixel” for the computer image to be displayed edge-to-edge with no overscan (edges cut off) or underscan (black border on all 4 sides).

See if that setting is available on your Sony, and good luck.

I was thinking of upgrading to a HD TV but I am a little strapped for cash so wanted to get the best one possible for around £350 which is full HD and 40+ inches, any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by syco noodles
you wont get a good hd tv for that price, save a little bit longer till you have £400 when you can get a panasonic 42in tv with freeview HD built in

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-P42C3B-42-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B004L2KTMW/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327250269&sr=1-4

or you could get this Lucky Goldstar lg 3d plasma tv for £400 but with lg they are NOT that great

Q&A: Which HDTV is best for Full Range Super White, 1080p LCD TV?

Question by TheOne: Which HDTV is best for Full Range Super White, 1080p LCD TV?
I am looking for a TV that can give me optimal quality with the following:

-Between 30 and 39 inches
-1080p (and HDMI, of course)
-LCD
-Can support RGB Full Range Superwhite.

Any comments, suggestions, or anything that may help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Full Range and Super White settings on your PS3 might not make huge differences on sets in the size range you’re looking at. They are about getting more detail out of your games and in sets of those sizes, extra detail related features have a limited pay off. They might make some difference, I’m not sure, but its not likely sizable.

Neither Sony nor anyone else currently publishes a list of sets that support the features for sure. So if you really feel concerned about it, then you should consider finding a store that will hook-up a PS3 to TVs for you and you can play with the settings and see for yourself. That’s likely your best bet.

Lastly, as it seems like you’re trying to buy a set for gaming, you might want to really consider ones with 120Hz refresh rates. This should potentially help you get better gaming playback on the LCD. Its another added expense, but it may help fight off motion blur issues.

32″

Sony KDL-32XBR9 – 1080p 120Hz
Panasonic TC-L32G1 – 720p 120Hz
LG 32LH40 – 1080p 120Hz

37″

Panasonic TC-L37G1 – 1080p 120Hz
LG 37LH40 – 1080p 120Hz
Samsung LN37B650 – 1080p 120Hz

40″ (Sony doesn’t make a 37″ set)

Sony KDL-40V5100
Sony KDL-40W5100 (adds contrast, better image processor, multimedia features)
- both are 1080p and 120Hz

Full HD is better than HD ready. It is higher definition. That’s the only difference but you need to have access to HDTV or Blueray for it to really be worth the money.
