Q&A: Used 60 inch Plasma TV worth $750?

Question by Steve: Used 60 inch Plasma TV worth 0?
My work has a used 60 inch plasma (LG 60pc1dc) for sale for $ 750. I’m not sure if I should buy it. So I’m asking here, is it worth it?

Pros:
Only seen 12 hours use.
Huge screen, of course.

Cons:
It was moved via van once, out of packaging.
It powers up, but I’ve not tested (nor could test) every option/connector.
No remote, no warranty.
Older plasma technology.
About 3 years old, wall mounted, powered down most of the time. Is this an issue?
Newer technology TVs, granted a bit smaller of course, can be purchased all day long for $ 750 – $ 1000. TVs this size are also under $ 2000 now, and are not plasma.

I’m leaning toward a 47 inch that’s brand spankin’ new instead, but if someone here raises their hand and says “Buy it you fool!!” then I want get get that opinion and the reasons.

Thanks

I don’t know the specs for both, but if you can, compare the specs. If they’re both similar, then get the 60 in AFTER you get a chance to try it out.

Turn it on, let it run for about 5-10 minutes. Make sure the picture quality looks fine, there’s no problems with the screen. See if there’s any really dark or really white spots that aren’t supposed to be. Make sure there’s no physical damage that you can see as well (on the screen, if it’s on like the back, don’t worry about it unless it’s a port or something like that).

If you don’t get a chance to try out the television, DO NOT BUY IT even if the person selling it to you keeps saying it’s in really good, top condition. Otherwise you might be wasting money…

Specs to look for is resolution, the higher the number, the better (1920×1080 is true HD, go higher if you want). That’s really it, you can check contrast, but that doesn’t matter very much…

Whats the best way to package a 40 inch plasma tv to ship it overseas?

Question by Dr_Q80: Whats the best way to package a 40 inch plasma tv to ship it overseas?
Ive bought this tv about 7 months ago and now I plan to travel overseas. Its a decent tv and one that I wish to take with me. I tossed away the packaging that came with it initially, so whats the best way to box it up / package it so I can ship it home?

I tried going to tv stores and asking for the boxes that they have for these TVs but all of them have already chucked them away!

Best answer:

Answer by
Have you tried best buy? Other option is to go to UPS, they pack stuff, you need a professional to do it for you if you don’t have the original packaging. Without the original box you are in risk that your TV can get damage. I think UPS or PakMail would do it for you if you can find the original box, also with in the box with big letters FRAGILE, also if you can buy insurance for it.

What are all the Samsung 37 inch LCD TV models?

Question by .: What are all the Samsung 37 inch LCD TV models?
I checked on the Samsung website but I don’t think they show all models because I can find certain models in shops but not on the Samsung website. =(

If somebody could kindly list them all that would be really helpful! =) Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Texperson
On Samsung’s site, they list all the models for this year, the B series. In some stores they may still have last year’s models, the A series. They could also have returns and refurbs which are even older. And during the year, sometimes the manufacturer’s discontinue a certain tv, so they remove it from their site, but the stores still sell it.

And Walmart, Costco, etc. often have slightly different model numbers with some missing features from the main model numbers on the web site for various reasons. All you can do is look at the features and buy what meets your needs.

So that’s where you may find a difference.

Best 40 inch lcd hdtv for under $600?

Question by reno1051: Best 40 inch lcd hdtv for under 0?
I dont know a lot about tv’s but I am wondering what would be the best lcd hdtv for around $ 600. I am definitely concerned with image quality and sound clarity, but my main concern is the video lag. my 52 inch tv in my den has a lag when scrolling with IO digital cable. from what i understand, some tv’s have that problem and some dont (not sure the cause myself). anyway my main question is what is my best bet for a lcd hdtv for around $ 600. i am an avid video game player and movie watcher so a reliable and clear tv is what i am looking for. eventually i plan on getting a blu ray player as well.

Since the TV width is an issue as I have prebuilt television cabinets I have narrowed my search down to

Toshiba 40RF350U Super Narrow Bezel LCD
Samsung LN-T4066F

Which television would you recommend and why? Also are there any 42 inch 1080p TVs around that have a sub 40 inch width?

Thank You

I suggest staying away from Samsung crap.

Toshiba makes decent LCD tvs, but I suggest a Sony 40V3000, or there XBR series.

mouse, joystick and connects to the LCD TV. Basically I wud like to use for edutaintment for children and family. Pl guide on model/ price.

As for the desktop you would need something with at least a dual core CPU and a mid-range graphics card. All the wireless accessories you can pick up separately. LCD tv usually have many options for video input (vga, dvi, hdmi) and a video card is guaranteed to have at least one of those. And if your video card doesn’t match the inputs on your TV, there are adapters that come with most cards, or can be purchased very cheap online.

There are so many options that will satisfy your needs that it is hard to recommend one brand over another. Maybe try one of the custom computer sites like cyberpower or digital storm and build one to the specs mentioned above.
